On grid solar power supplies invert solar power from DC to AC in conformity with the mains (grid) supply and thus act as an augmenter of the grid supply. In this way they act to reduce power consumed from the grid during the day. Each system is fitted with a power meter which curtails solar power so that there is no export.
You can add a battery system to the installation to consume excess power during the day and avail it at night. This then becomes an AC coupled Hybrid solar power supply. This battery system can also act as back up, when the grid is unavailable.
